Description:

In this one-week online workshop, Qiang will share his approach on how to create a dynamic still life painting. The workshop has 2 group Zoom meetings on June 14 (Monday) and June 16 (Wednesday), each meeting will be 3 hours long. Using presentation, demonstration, Qiang will introduce his painting procedure, techniques, and knowledge. This workshop emphasizes the interaction between students and teacher. With Qiang’s guidance, students will complete an assignment and send photos of their work to him to review. Qiang will then set up individual meetings on Zoom on June 17 (Thursday) and June 18 (Friday) to discuss and critique their work. All meetings will be recorded so students can access them at their leisure. This workshop is designed for students of all levels.

Interactive Zoom Workshop: ​ Dynamic Still Lives

Workshop agenda:

Session 1: (June 14, 2021, 12:00 – 3:00 PM CST)

                Presentation/demo:  Basic equipment, still life setup, painting procedure, placement, value, and block-in.

                Assignment: Set up your own still life, and do a painting from it.

Session 2: (June 16, 2021, 12:00 – 3:00 PM CST)

                Presentation/demo:  Color, modeling, edges, and consolidation.

Session 3: (June 17, 2021, 12:00 – 3:00 PM CST)

                Students' individual critique meetings.

Session 4: (June 18, 2021, 12:00 – 3:00 PM CST)

                Students' individual critique meetings. 




 
Assignment and individual critiques:

Students will have an assignment on June 14 (Monday). They will finish the assignment within two days after the assignment date, and email in the images their setups and paintings. Qiang will set up individual zoom meetings with each student and comment on their work. Students can also send images of their existing paintings for Qiang's comments. Critique meetings will be on either Thursdays or Fridays.
